Access to timely mammograms is crucial in the fight against breast cancer.

For many residents of Eastern NC, accessing mammogram screenings can be difficult due to barriers like transportation challenges, long distances to healthcare facilities, or demanding schedules. That’s why we offer two ways to make screenings more accessible: our Mobile Mammography Unit, which brings state-of-the-art breast cancer screening directly to communities, and transportation assistance to help you get to the nearest facility if needed.

    Mobile mammography is a service that brings mammography equipment to different locations, such as community centers, workplaces, or events, to provide breast cancer screenings conveniently.

  • How does mobile mammography work?

    A specially equipped vehicle travels to various locations with mammography equipment on board. Patients schedule appointments via the registration link, and the mammograms are performed inside the vehicle by qualified technologists.

    Mobile mammography services cater to patients who may face barriers to accessing traditional screening facilities due to factors such as transportation challenges, time constraints, or living in rural areas.

  • Are mobile mammography screenings as accurate as those in a traditional facility?

  • How often should I get a mammogram?

    The frequency of mammograms depends on factors such as age, family history, and personal risk factors. Generally, patients aged 35 and older are advised to get mammograms annually, but individual recommendations may vary.

  • How should I prepare for a mobile mammography appointment?

    Typically, you'll be advised to wear comfortable clothing with easy access to the upper body and avoid using deodorant, perfume, or powders on the day of your appointment, as they can interfere with the mammogram images.

  • Who is eligible?

    -Patients 35 years and older with or without an active insurance plan

    -Must be 1 year since previous mammogram

    -Cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding

    -Must report a PCP or OBGYN to receive results

    -Must not have a lump you can feel or dimpling of the breasts, or nipple changes

  • What if I don't have insurance?

    Its okay, we will still see you, but you must have a primary care physician PCP to send results to (can receive a PCP from their local health department).

  • How long does it take?

    The screening is about 15 minutes.

  • Can I bring someone with me?

    Only registered patients themselves can enter the vehicle, so if anyone else comes with you they must wait in their own personal car or in parking lot.
